K K R North Happenings - What is Going On?
The K K R North blog is just a blog about me and my various online projects. It's intended to keep friends and family informed about my blogs, e-books and other online doings.
Many are completely unaware that there are plans percolating in my head...and of those that do, most don't know how close they are to boiling over. Er...that is, what progress is being made. So if you wish to keep informed, here's the place to do it!
Update: I learned how to expand the banner image to fill the space at the top of my blog, so I've done that now. See banner above...it fills the space now...wow! I also adjusted the width of this particular blog and increased the font size to help make it easier to read. Are your eyes happy?
The Plan
Western Reads - This is a blog I will be launching shortly. It's address is www.westernreads.com. I have recently become an avid reader of Western novels...old and new. Which is really weird, because until two years ago, I had read mostly non-fiction and I hadn't read a Western novel since I was a kid! In Western Reads, I will be doing book reviews of western novels and including some short author bios and history tid-bits. I completed the web blog design template and created a banner for it. You can see a picture of the banner above. I created the banner in Powerpoint.
Status: As noted above, I recently learned how to expand my banner image to fill the space in the blog template so I've upgraded the image. The first book I will be reviewing is Owen Wister's The Virginian.
All Things Pie-licious! - This is a blog I will also be launching in the near future. It's address is allthingspielicious.com. I currently have an artist designing the logo for it. Once I have the logo in hand, I will design the banner...using Powerpoint, of course. This blog will be all about pies. Baking pies, reading about pies, dreaming about pies...y'know, all about pies. I've already gotten started writing the posts and will launch them as soon as my logo and banner are designed.
Status: The first pie I will be blogging about is PECAN PIE. A no brainer...since the pecan tree is the state tree of my home state--TEXAS! I will also be including a review of the book "Pecan Pie and Deadly Lies" by Nancy Naigle.
Yester Reads - This is another blog I will be launching, but not in the immediate future because I'm a little busy right now launching Western Reads and All Things Pie-licious! In this particular blog, I will be reviewing old chapbooks and novels. And by old, I mean fiction going back to the 15th century and on up to the 19th century. It's address will be www.yesterreads.com.
Status: Research. Research. Research. There is a lot of research involved in this one as many of these books are not available through the normal channels. In addition to reviewing these, I will be making them available to read online via e-books.
The Lil' Rhino Gazette - Many family members and friends remember the days when I published my alternative music fanzine titled The Lil' Rhino Gazette. I published it from 1986 to 1998. I intend to resurrect a form of it in a blog. I won't be working on this one right away as I am without a scanner and part of my plan is to scan all of the Lil' Rhino back issues and make them available for download from the blog. The blog address will be www.lilrhinogazette.com.
Status: I'm waiting on the purchase of a new scanner. I'm also trying to find the original galleys of the Lil' Rhino; they will be easier to scan than the finished copies.
Clock Boy's Geek Toys - Readers of The Lil' Rhino Gazette will remember Clock Boy. He was a cartoon character (don't tell him I said that) I created for the fanzine review section. He reviewed tons of fanzines. I plan to re-purpose Clock Boy to review geek toys. I'm no whiz at using graphics programs to draw, so I plan to draw Clock Boy in a couple of poses and then find someone that can render them into jpegs for me. His address will be www.clockboysgeektoys.com.
Status: I have yet to begin drawing the various poses I want to use.
Understanding the Book of Daniel - Technically this is not a blog, but I am using a blog page to advertise this e-book that I launched over a year ago. It's currently only available on Kindle. You can visit it at www.understandingthebookofdaniel.com and order it for your Kindle for $4.99.
Status: I am working on making it available on Nook and on Amazon as a print-on-demand book. Before I do any of that, I am working on adding chapter quizzes to it.
Rightly Dividing Resources - This is a new blog idea that I just started work on as of today. The intention is to provide rightly dividing bible believers with a one-stop resource for bible study materials. I will be including reviews of rightly dividing books and websites. The plan is also to include some downloadable puzzles and pamphlets.
Other Things Percolating
E-books
In conjunction with some of the blogs I will be launching, I am planning to create and sell some e-books. Most of these will be created for and sold thru Yester Reads. However, I also have some ideas for e-books to tie-in with my Western Reads blog. My plans for these will include downloads available thru Kindle and Nook as well as some print-on-demand services.
Postcards
I have been collecting vintage postcards from ebay and antique shops. As soon as I replace my scanner, I plan to re-purpose these postcards by making them available for sale online as newly designed postcards, greeting cards, postage stamps, coffee mugs and whatever else strikes my fancy.
What Else Is Going On?

Hello Kelly - Your research and findings are incredible. Thank you what you've shared and enlightened for us all. I would love to connect to ask more about Mineral Wells, where my ancestors lived in the 19th cen. I will get to visit MW for the first time ever, later this summer! - AD
